OVER AND UNDER THE SEA
The Promontory of Portofino, which has become for its extraordinary characteristics a Marine Park, is undoubtedly the capital of Mediterranean diving.
Studied by biologists from all Europe it offers, with its underwater reefs, invisible sceneries in other Mediterranean areas.
The SERVIZIO MARITTIMO DEL TIGULLIO, in collaboration with the Diving Center SOPRA E SOTTO IL MARE, proposes for the schools, a program dedicated to the discovery of this wonderful underwater environment.
One lesson of marine biology “on the spot”: during an one day mini-cruise: the students will have the opportunity in fact to participate to an exciting diving adventure, observing the images directly from two diving operators who communicate with the surface through sophisticated video and sound systems.
On the surface a marine biologist gives an amusing lesson, using the images and the sounds which arrive from underwater, while the students communicate with the divers asking them questions in order to recognize the marine species which they meet.
For this reason to the teachers and to the students we supply a diary with the description of all activities which are held on board and the recognizing cards of the most common marine organisms in the Mediterranean Sea.
This new laboratory on the sea would like to sensitize the new generations to the respect of the marine environment, through its discovery and exploitation: which better occasion than the one to experience on the spot a relation with an environment to love and protect, thanks to professional people who do of the sea their own reason to live ?
PROGRAM:
H. 9,15 Appointment at the mooring pier in S.Margherita Ligure or Rapallo and boarding on the boat of the SERVIZIO MARITTIMO del TIGULLIO.
Introduction of the Staff (Captain, two diving-operators, a biologist operator on surface) and handing of the diary.
H.9,45 Departure. During the navigation there will be the introduction of some subjects of navigation (location of the course, methods of orientation, evaluation of the weather conditions, explanation of the landscape)
H. 10,15 Arrival and mooring on the point where the dive will be done inside the Protected Marine Area of Portofino. Dressing up of the divers and preparation of the sound and video equipments.
H. 10,45 Diving and biology lesson in direct through the questions to the divers and the images on the monitor. At the end of the dive, the divers will show the basic technique for the dive with breathing mask, the equipments and their running.
H. 12,15 Landing in San Fruttuoso where it is possible, not included in the program, to pay a visit to the Abbey and the characteristic village of fishermen.
Picnic.
The return may be done with any of the boats of the line Portofino-S.Margherita Ligure – Rapallo, with a possible further stop in Portofino. The responsible person of the group will have the timetable of the boats. On request it is possible to ask for an environmental and tourist guide, with a surcharge on the advertised price.
